The great northern city of Newcastle hosted the UK final of this years Neymar Jr’s Five Tournament, organised by Red Bull. Akin to 5-a-side, Neymar Jr’s Five is a fun, fast-paced and technical game that gives young footballers aged 16 to 25 years old, the opportunity to put teams of 5 to 7 players together to compete and represent their country at the World Final in Brazil this summer.
However, unlike regular 5-a-side football, the Neymar Jr’s Five Tournament organised by Red Bull format has a twist. Teams battle it out in 10-minute matches, but, every time one team scores, the opposition loses a player, which makes it fast, technical, tactical – and unique in the world of football!
The preliminary rounds were hosted in 5-a-side football centres around the UK including Glasgow, Leicester, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham and London. The winning team from the final in Newcastle would earn a place in the international final to be hosted on 7th & 8th of July in Sao Paulo, Brazil!
For the UK final in Newcastle, the the event was situated alongside the banks of the famous Tyne river. The team at Red Bull needed a portable, secure games arena to make the event work.
